Farm update!

Thought I would give you a little update on what has been going on at Doaks Creek Farm since the "tragedy" blog.

Okay....George, the injured dog, is fine. After several trips back and forth to the vet to drain is neck from developing fluid build-up from the bites, he has just about healed. As far as Max goes, he has found a new home with a family that loves him just as much as we did, but only has FEMALE dogs. He even still gets to stay inside and sleep on the couch! His two favorite things!

Next....a miracle has happened! Our blind goat can SEE! No one ever dreamed that he would be able to see again since he didn't get his vision back within a week or so after getting sick. I don't believe he can see 100% clear, but he can see well enough that he can do whatever he wants to do and go wherever he wants to go in the yard/pastures. It truly has been a blessing!

Lastly.....Druette, an alpaca, may be a MOMMY next year! We have been able to breed her to Jaeger, one of the male alpacas, but we will have to wait somewhere between 30-60 days before getting an ultrasound to see if we were successful! An alpaca is pregnant for 11-12 months, so maybe we will have a spring 2010 baby!

Oh yea! One last thing....Landyn & Brendon's school is coming to our house for a field trip at the beginning of May to fish and visit with all the animals. Please keep this field trip in your prayers! We would love for it to be successful and the kids to have a BLAST!

I feel truly blessed to be able to blog positive updates on things that were devastating to us. Thank you for your support and prayers!

Uncle Sam

Just wanted to put my two sense in, for what it is worth, about good ole' UNCLE SAM! Whoever originally came up with the bright idea of April 15th either didn't have to pay taxes or were definitely not SELF-EMPLOYED! I know for some people it is an exciting time of year to actually have to decide what to spend their RETURN on, but for the rest of the world that is self-employed or who's spouse is self-employed, it is the most dreaded time of year to feel like you are just throwing away money. Maybe it wouldn't feel so bad if I felt like we were getting something in return from this lovely government, but I DON'T.... especially, since it has been very well known that there won't even be SOCIAL SECURITY to draw by the time I get to that age! Anyway...I will get off that soap box because I could go on FOREVER!

Landyn turns 5!

Another year has gone in a flash....Sunday, Landyn turned 5. I often find myself asking..."How in the world is my baby girl 5?" As much as it flusters me, it was still time to make birthday plans. I asked Landyn if she wanted to have a party with some of her friends or if she wanted me and Danny to take her and a friend to the Memphis Zoo again. Of course, being my child, she chose to go to the zoo, which started a whole other problem of which friend was going! She started out knowing for sure that she was going to ask Perry DeLoach to go with her, after all, we did have to learn to spell her name before our own. :) We only ran into one small snag! Landyn came home one day and said that she had asked Perry to come with her to the zoo for her birthday and Perry said,"NO...she had already been!" You have to love the 4-5 year old! So back to square one we went!

After changing our mind several times on the actual agenda while we were gone....we finally had set plans! We went from taking Avery Saik to taking the whole Saik family with us, which we LOVED! Everybody piled up in the MINI VAN and off we went! We stayed Saturday night in South Haven and drove into Memphis Sunday morning after a good ole' breakfast at Cracker Barrel! We first took the kids to the Peabody Hotel to watch the infamous RED CARPET DUCKS walk. And by the way....why do adults that do not have any children have to stand in the way of little kids getting to be on the front row to watch! It about drove me crazy! Anyway.....after that we took the kids to the Memphis Zoo were we met up with "the girls!" (that is what Landyn calls Wina Ward's grandchildren)

Many hours later....many animals later....many snacks later....we headed back home! It was a GREAT day and I know that probably it will not be on her list of things to do for her birthday for very much longer so I am really glad we went this year! All the kids did great for such a long day!

Thank you Saik Family for going with us...we enjoyed it!
Thank you Stephanie for bringing "the girls" and getting cake and ice cream!

Another day in Paradise

Okay...I have no idea what in the world is going on, but I just knew when I woke up this morning that TODAY was going to be a NEW DAY and the world was going to be on my side! Well, I was WRONG! As I opened my eyes this morning...I thought to myself...."I must have slept with my mouth open because my throat is sore." Oh no...of coarse it couldn't have been that SIMPLE! It dawned on me later in the day that I probably have strep throat since I tend to get it 4-5 times a year and I haven't meet my quota yet for the year. On my one potty break in 8 hours....I noticed the dead give away.....PUSS POCKETS!

Oh why...Oh Why...Dear Lord...me?

One word to describe the Murphy's lately: tragedy!

It was brought to my attention this week from a friend of mine that pulling up the website and seeing the same entry from February 2 is getting REALLY OLD, so I am updating you!

As I am sure you know, tragedy comes in threes and we have experienced all three in a months time! It started at the beginning of March with Sinful, one of the alpacas. She got really sick and we fought for a week to keep her alive but on day 7......we lost the battle and she died! As we were just beginning to recover from that heart wrenching incident...the second tragedy occurred.

Danny and I went out one morning to feed all the animals and noticed that one of our goats was just standing there crying like he was scared to death. After watching Conner for a few minutes, we realized that he had gone blind over night! I immediately took him to the vet. After being there a couple of days, I received a phone call saying that they had done all they could do and we could either bring him home or put him to sleep. Of coarse, that wasn't even an option for me since I am dye hard animal lover. We brought him home! Life has been an adjustment trying to make sure a blind animal can learn where water, feed, and his house are located, but he is ALIVE! This is when I realized that we were doomed for another tragedy since obviously this was going to be a case of threes!

And then.....the third tragedy! A couple of nights ago, Danny and I were sitting in the den when we heard a screech outside. When we opened the front door, we saw two of our dogs fighting. One of them was seriously injured, leaving us no choice but to get rid of the dog that caused the injuries. The only problem was that we really, really liked him.

Needless to say.....the past month has been very emotional for me!
